Music In Everyday Life

LISTENING TO MUSIC ON YOUR PHONE?

JOIN THE MYMUSIC STUDY!

We are a joint research group conducting research on the influence of music on mood, from …., and the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Through the MuPsych application for Android phones, we collect information that helps us understand why people are listening to music and how it affects them in their daily life.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

You can participate in the study if:

– you are over 18 years old (there is no age limit)

– you listen to music on your phone

– you use an Android phone*

*Unfortunately, MuPsych is not yet supported in non-Android devices.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE?

To participate in the study, download the MuPsych application on your phone and select the code MyMusic IIIT. Link:

The study will last for a week, during which when you listen to music on your phone, the app will ask you questions about your mood and the reasons for listening to music.

The app also includes questionnaires to find out information such as your personality traits and well-being. Answer these questionnaires within a week when it suits you best. The researchers will not contact you during this time, instead the study is fully conducted within the application.

NOTE! If you are using Spotify, please make sure the Device Broadcast Status option in Spotify’s Settings tab is enabled (button appears as green). This will connect you to your Spotify account through MuPsych, allowing the two applications to work together.

USE AND DATA PROTECTION

The MuPsych application will ask you a number of questions, but we don’t know exactly who you are or who answered the questions. We only collect data from the information you provide us. If you are logged into your Spotify account through MuPsych, we will also collect Spotify information about the music you are listening to and your music preferences. Your responses will be sent directly from your phone to a secure web server. Only the research team has the password to access it. Answers will be analysed anonymously – that is, you will not be identified across other participants in the group. We will not reveal or sell your personal information to other individuals or organizations.
